In 1956 Sardar Prakash Singh opened a Dhaba on GT road at Murthal. It was made up of tirpal (tent) and wooden poles only. It was first opened to fulfil the food requirements of the Truck drivers. He also made available some Charpais to the Truck drivers, where they could have a rest. Later his sons Amrik Singh and Sukhdev Singh looked after Dhaba. Both sons also gave the name Dhaba in their own name together. Initially they started serving a meal of dal roti, sabzi and rice. And they started serving food on the Charpais. Gradually Amrik Sukhdev started getting popularity among truck drivers. All truck drivers used to halt on the Dhaba to taste the delicious food and they could also have rest there on the Charpais.
Currently Amrik Sukhdev has seating capacity of 500-600 people at a time. They also have more than 300 members of staff. They have about 10,000 visitors every day, which is itself a very large number. NRI travelling to Delhi and local travelling on GT Road are their regular customers. They also have a small kid’s zone where children can play and enjoy themselves. There are a few small shops are also available where you can buy some goods for you for the remembrance of Sukhdev Dhaba.
Amrik Sukhdev has a large menu which includes North to South Indian dishes. They are prepare Chinese & Italian dishes.
They have special Thaali which is itself a complete package for your lunch or dinner. It includes Roti sabji dal raita rice sweet salad and papad.
